Camcorder Audio

Got my Camcorder a while, unsure of the model Some Sony handycam though.

Anyway, I want to start shooting a few things, a Video Podcast for example. I don't however believe my Camcorders mic is up to much.

I've been looking at the ones you hook onto your top, unsure what there called. But the problem is I don't see how I'd get the audio to my Camcorder. Would I have to basically dub it on top of the video on my PC?

That doesn't sound to good being honest.

So what's my best option?

Thanks

Re: Camcorder Audio

To use an external mic the camcorder needs to either have a mic input (normally a 3.5mm jack socket) or an active hotshoe to take the signal into the cam. If the cam doesn't have either then the chances are you are best to stick to the built in mic.
Another option is to record the audio to say a minidisc recorder and use the smpte timecode to sync the audio to video on a PC. This is the best quality option, but a lot of hassle to get correctly synced if you are not experienced with this.

Mark.
