Does anyone know how to delete a large secion of blank from the middle of a project or how to select all the footage after the blank section and move it all to the left?

Turn "ripple edits" on. Double click in the blank space; it should show highlighted. Then click delete. The blank space will be deleted.

The alternate is to click on a track, right click and choose "select events to end", then drag to the left. But you will need to do this for each track.
