compression

Hello,

is the any way in which anyone knows how to not have to compress a minidv to dvd but still be able to watch it in cd format. I want to be able to take the 13GB file creeated by transferring minidv footage to the gard drive and watch that in cd format.

Thanks

Im little confused;

MiniDV file format for video is DV AVI..: 13Gb/hr best quality
DVD video file format is mpeg2 : 4.7Gb best quality
CD video ( also called VCD) files are mpeg1 : 600Mb best quality

As such it is impossible to go from DV AVI ( miniDV format) and not compress it if you want to watch it in a CD format

Having said that.. DVD format is what the Movies from Blockbusters come in..What is wrong with that quality ?

Also if you want to , you can burn any format to anything as a Data disc. Ie you can put Say, 20min of a DV AVI on a DVD disc ( 4.7Gb) or more on a dual layer disc.

For the PC there are Mpeg4 formats ( Divx, Xvid ect)which have an AVi extension but are not DV AVI from MiniDV. They are good quality, small size ( can fit on a CD) but are mainly meant to be viewed on the PC. You can certainly put them on your HDD for viewing but if you are coming from MiniDV (DV AVI) you would most definitely be compressing to get that smaller file size, and you would need the right software ( and codec) on your system to do it
Hope this helps
