A little advice please

I have been reading through threads for a few weeks now whilst I contemplate buying a new camcorder. I can't put it off anymore.

I have used a JVC GR DVJ70 for many years, purely for filming our kids, and holidays. It served us well, but I fancy a change.

I was considering the Sony DCR-SR32, or the Panasonic NV-GS32OEF, but after reading some of the threads of other people looking for a new camcorder, I am now leaning towards the Canon HV10, as i fancy the HD quality, and I have a few mini DV tapes already!!

I guess I'm after some reassurance, that the Canon is the HD one to go for in its price range?

Also, I have a HD LCD (Lexsor 32") with HDMI connector. Can I connect the camera straight to it to view the results, or do I need to go through a whole process of outputting to a disc? I don't have a HD DVD player, and can't afford the cost of a player as well as the extra £200-£300 I may be laying out to get a HD camcorder.

I think that's it for now. Many thanks in advance for your help/advice

Re: A little advice please

Depends on your definition of price range and what sort of price you get it for... the HV10 is very very good, certainly much better than the Sony SR32, but usually costs more.

You can playback from the HV10 to your HDTV in HD, but not via HDMI, the HV10 doesn't have HDMI. The HV20 does, as does the Sony HC3/HC5/HC7. With the HV10 you would use the analogue outputs (quality is just as good).

Re: A little advice please

Thanks Mark.

Initial budget was set round the 350, but figure I need to spend about 550 for the HV10 (pixmania) plus a spare battery, bag and a few new tapes?

So despite the analogue connections do I still get HD quality on playback direct to TV? If not, is it possible to purchase a hdmi cable for the HV10?

Thanks again

Re: A little advice please

The HV10 doesn't have a HDMI connector, so a cable won't help. But yes, you can get High Def output using component video.
