Mini DV HD tapes

Once you've got your HDV Camcorder, to record in HD do you need specific HD Mini DV tapes or will any old Mini DV tapes do the trick?

no any tape will do,i use sony premiums but do get the odd drop out with them as others i have read on many sites do but some get none so you may be lucky.chris

Any good DV tape will do. The tapes classfied as HDV tapes are of a higher spec, the idea being to make them more resistant to dropouts. Dropouts aren't any more likely with HDV than DV, but due to the GOP structure if you get one they are more noticable (half second dropout). But most people find dropouts rare even with an ordinary DV tape (like Sony Premium).
