Corrupted video file from camcorder

First off, I apologize for the lack of details, but I don't know many myself. My aunt called me up the other day asking if I knew how to repair a corrupted video file. She's got a video camera (I don't know what brand) that records to DVD-RWs and apparantly copied the video to her hard drive without ever finalizing the DVD. Now the video won't play.

I've tried naming it with several different extensions including VOB and playing it in different media players and installing different codecs). I tried opening it in DVD Decryptor and a few different video file convertors without any luck. I'm not really sure where to go from here. If anyone has any tips I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: Corrupted video file from camcorder

Can't you just copy it back to a DVD-RW, do not finalize the disc. Pop it back in the video cam and then finalize?

Customer Support for tha Video Camera make should be able to help out, perhaps there is SW included with the cam that if you install on a PC lets you finalize later...

Re: Corrupted video file from camcorder

The suggestion above is the best ..if it works
other ideas could be

If the DVD can play off its own camcorder, she can

Either copy the file directly via USB to PC ( Not all have this facility though)
Or
Record from camcorder to setttop DVD recorder then finalise DVD from the settop
or
Where possible capture to PC as an analogue video via video-out

I love DVD camcorders..
