One's a pro tool costing several hundred pounds and the other is a cut down version offering a good tool set to camcorder enthusiasts like what we are.

Apologies to Ernie Wise.

You can see an overview of the differences here
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/...457&PageID=110

I would suggest starting with Movie Studio, as it does about 80% of what the pro version does for 20% of the price. You can always upgrade to the pro version later if you grow out of it (they give a discount for upgrading which basically means you'll get the price of your original Movie Studio knocked off if you upgrade).

Ok, lets say price isn't an issue. Which would be better for a basic user?

Either .. they have pretty much the same GUI, interface and look and feel ..
They could be twins
Seriously though for "learning " , Movie studio has tutorials built in ,, but Pro apparently has a training DVD

In my house price .. is always an issue
But you can just as easily use Pro in Newbee mode and grow with it as you get more adventourous. I have both versions and TBH I use the full version more. But most things I do with it I could just as easily do with Movie Studio

I agree with Senu. I think they even share some of the same code. Up to V7 at least they share the same manual... effectively the Movie Studio version is the full version with some features turned off. So they are equally easy (or hard!) to learn. If money is really no object, then go for the pro version.
