Help! £1350 to spend at Jessops

After my previous post regarding loss of Video Gear, my house insurance company has kindly given me £1350 to spend at Jessops
Please feel sorry for me and give me your thoughts on how to spend it.

My problem is that I can't really spend it all, I only wanted enough to buy a shiny new HD camera, I had made up my mind to plump for the Canon HV20 (£850) but having read a previous post there could be a problem with Vista (what dosn't) and firewire in/out

I am also drawn towards the HG10 (same price)but I am unsure about AVCHD format's quality, I am not too concerned about the editing side as I am coping OK with my Sanyo HD2.(similar codec and would solve the firewire question).

With the amount I've been given to spend I could go for Jessops most expensive prosumer the Sony HDR-SR7(£1000) but again I am unsure if this would give me anything more than the Canons and just be overspend.

Like most users my needs are Top quality video and good low light, not too concerned about manual functions as I use my cameras for filming my Grandchildren. So really a good point and shoot HD camcorder

I already have camera bags, tripods, wideangle and tele lenses.

So how would you spend the money or should I say VOUCHERS, thanks

For top quality video, it's hard to beat the HV20. I'm not sure why it wouldn't capture with Vista... is this an issue just with WMM?

The good AVCHD cams are close - the SR5/SR7, the Panny SR1/SR5/SR7(import), or the Canon HG10. If you want the convienence of HDD (which mainly comes in if you won't want to PC edit), then these are good; I haven't seen the HG10 in action but camcorderinfo.com thinks it's the best of the AVCHD bunch... but not as good as the HDV HV20.

CCI reckons the Canons better than the Sony's? Well, plus ce change, as the French would say.

Re: Help! £1350 to spend at Jessops

All roads lead to to the HV20

Looking back at the previous post the writer seems to be using Windows Vista for editing (bad choice), I have both Pinnacle and Ulead 11 so I guess that the firewire should be O.K, I will definitly be editing.

That leaves me with £480 to spend, I'll maybe just get another SD camcorder and put it on E/bay

You've got exactly enough to buy me one of these:

If only my Insurance company would let me buy from E/bay

Just think of all the goodies I could buy

That price puts a damper on my £850 at Jessops, with profits like that why are they in trouble?

My link is to a seller who imports NTSC models from Japan. Things must be much much cheaper in Japan.
