Digital/Anologue Convertors

Hi,

Now that I know that I can find a firewire hub (or splitter) (many thanks to Redsox Mark, Chris Hull and S Rouse who responded to my request for information about this), I now need to find a convertor linked to the PC by firewire which will allow me to use an external monitor when I am editing on the PC using Vegas 6.

There are really three questions:-

1. Can anyone recommend a suitable make that is available in the UK?

2. I know that Canopus do one (the ADVC 110) but does anyone know if their ADVC 100 which I have seen on e-bay will do the same and if it (or the ADVC 110 for that matter) is any good?

3. Do these systems allow the import of material from a VHS tape (using a video tape player) to the PC so that I can then burn it on to a DVD or do some further editing as I wish?

Sorry if all this seeems straightforward but any help will be much appreciated.

Best Wishes,

Richard Jones

Re: Digital/Anologue Convertors

Richard I have a canapus 110. it works really well on my Mac and Final Cut can't vouch for PC thought. It will allow you to capture from VHS (I capture from DVD and Sky with no problems) as long as you have the right connections e.g. s-video or compositevia rca leads. It will let you display on a monitor while capturing and also while editing.

I brought mine from the apple store for £200 but I know you can find them £30 cheaper online.

Hope that helps.

Sam

Yep, any analogue composite or S-Video source can be fed into the ADVC converters.
As they connect via firewire to a PC or Mac they will work with both and don't require any software to be installed.

Mark.

Re: Digital/Anologue Convertors

The simple answer to questions 2 and 3 is....Yes

And they work on the PC just as well as they do on the Mac
Buy with confidence
