Sony HDR-SR1E - worth £499.99?

Argos have the Sony HDR-SR1E in their clearance for £499.99. I have one reserved at a store near me so the question is - is it worth this price or has technology moved on and prices dropped of similar specced/better specced camcorders from Sony or others? I have a 1080p panel with hdmi's / a ps3 and currently use a miniDV JVC gr-dv1800 - any help appreciated.

That's a very good price. Things have moved on from the Sr1 but at 500 quid I think you'll be happy.

I had a look. Nearest I could find to me is Nottingham. So many camcorders, so little time.

I agree... and in many ways the SR1 is better than the newer SR5/SR7; e.g. better manual controls (like focus ring).

I have entered the name of every town within 100 miles of where I live and I can't find any branch that has one in stock.

There was one in Nottingham Parliament Street last night, but that has gone now.

Re: Sony HDR-SR1E - worth £499.99?

Buy it, I was one of the first one that bought it it is still a magnificant camera. I have have never stumbled over the size of the 30Gb HD, compared to the current 60Gb models. I always take my laptop with me when I'm on holiday, if you don't have a laptop 60Gb or even 100Gb internal HD is not enough if you do a lot of HD recording. I've filmed so much stuff I'm glad I bought it, the only thing I would want is an external video input so that I could connect a bulletcam for skiing.

You'd carry an SR1 skiing? You'll have to change your nick to "Mr Strong Man".
