UNfinalizing a DVD-R????

I have read somewhere that dvd's can be UNfinalized so that a disc that has been finalized and taken out of a camcorder to play in a DVD player can then be put back in the camcorder and unfinalized so that further recording can be done. Is this true?? and does it work in all camcorders??
Comment would be really appreciated as I recently bought a Hitachi GX5060 cos it used RAM which really restricted my choice. I had read the handbook online and thought it had a remote control (it hasn't but the 5100 has!!!) I now want to sell it and buy one with remote control but need to know if I can consider non-RAM models.
Hope someone can help!!

Re: UNfinalizing a DVD-R????

DVD-RW, maybe but not DVD-R in my experience
With DVD-R, it is possible to burn as a multisession disc, and keep adding to it but once it is finally closed that is it. I think the concept of start stop burning to disc by the DVD camcorders uses this concept.
My faith ( if that) in optical discs is limited to single run writes
