JVC Camcorder GR DVL 150e problem

Please can u help, have a 4 year old camcorder as above, only used 5/6 hours, but wont now record. Display shows E04 (or is it E06?) and tells me to disconnect and reconnect battery. Doesnt work. 1st time I had a problem JVC told me to tighten the tape in the cassette, and that worked ok, but the next time I used the camera the same thing didnt work, and sometimes now the tape eject doesnt even work
Has anyone had this same problem please and is there an easy answer. JVC want £150 to send it back, test and return unrepaired, or extra if repaired. Thanks Colin
