Smile Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

Hi folks. This is my first port. I've been deliberating over which camcorder to get for 4 weeks and had my eye on the Canon HV10 (fancied the HV20 but a bit too pricey). Up until today, the cheapest price I'd seen the HV10 advertised for was around £570 (using Kelkoo.co.uk). Stumbled on these deals today and thought I'd pass them on, if anyone is interested.

I ordered mine via overclockers (before I noticed that saverstore were a wee bit cheaper).

As a total newbie (to the world of camcorders), comments on what other kit would be useful..i.e best mini dv tapes to use? Where's best place to buy. Is a tripod/ bag/cleaning tape needed?

Thanks

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

Are you claiming that those links go to places that you can buy an HV10 at the prices immdiately after the links?

'Cos, the first one to Saverstore is £584 inc VAT and the second link doesn't work, so I am failing to see your point.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

What a difference a few hours makes. I'm guessing the Savastore price was either a mistake or a very special 1 day deal. The overclockers link ain't broke, it's just that they have removed the offer. I've ordered a HV10 via Overclockers and received an email yesterday to say that it has been dispatched. I should have it by Friday (fingers crossed). Tis a pity the offers didn't last. Sorry folks if I raised your hopes. I'll keep my eyes open for similar deals over the next few weeks. Some people (on here, I think) have sugggested you can get new HV10's on ebay for about £400, tho I ain't seen any so far.

Cheers

You must have been very lucky indeed
To get that cam for that price.
Post back when you get the Cam and your invoice, seems too good to be true

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

You can sometimes get what are described as new HV10's on eBay for about £435 - £450, and "honest, I have only ever used it once for about an hour" HV10's on eBay for £410 usually. The HV10s that have appeared on eBay recently have mostly had usurious postage charges - some as high as £35, for an item that weighs about a kilo.

I have been searching the Internet for HV10s for the last two months on UK and European sites and have NEVER seen prices as low as you have seen.

If you go to the section on Overclock for digital camcorders, there isn't ONE listed, not a sausage.

http://www.overclock.co.uk/home.php?cat=629

Not a pork sausage.

Current prices on kelkoo.co.uk vary between £561.02 and £857.70.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

Good news. The HV10 was delivered Thursday afternoon. Impressive stuff. Held off buying tapes, just in case the deal fell through. Any tips on the best tapes to use? . Any ideas what camera case/bag would be a good match? Also, I'm hoping to connect the h10 to my pc. I need a firewire card and some video editing software. Any recommendations? I hear the battery supplied with the hv10 is only good for 30 minutes - any longer lasting reasonably priced alternatives available? Thanks in advance.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

rhubarbe,

Overclock had stock on Tuesday. I bought via amazon market place. I just happened to stumble across the price (£431.97 plus £5 packing & shipping) whilst browsing amazon and looking at reviews etc. I couldn't get my credit card out quick enough! It was a bit later on Tue evening that I discovered that saverstore had it @ £430.18. I must have been lucky. I hope these prices are repeated soon.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

rhubarbe,

I've just noticed your HV10 impressions post. You've answered my questions on tapes and so I'll order some Sony Premium DV tapes from Amazon. Any idea about cleaning tapes - I think Amazon do them for approx £8 each. I'm guessing I'm aswell to buy a couple. I notice that the HV10 doesn't come with a case. Any ideas on a suitable case? Would you recommend Adobe Premier Elements 3. What firewire card ? Or are they all much of a muchness? Glad you like the HV10.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

I bought a 3 pack Sony premium blister that came with a Sony head cleaner for £4.50 from here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-NEW-SONY-PRE...QQcmdZViewItem

It was shipped very quickly. I bought the pack of three while the 10 pack at Amazon was on back order, and so that I would have a limited quanity of tapes to be playing around with if I decided I didn't want to keep the HV10.

I haven't bothered with a bag for my HV10 because it fits (just) into my bumbag that I carry around with me all the time. I have a larger one for holidays because I tend to eat and drink too much.

I do recommend Adobe Premiere Elements 3 of all the software I have tried recently.

I can't help with a Firewire card because my PCs have this on board. If yours hasn't I should check that it's up to the job of editing HDV because I thought that most modern mobos have firewire on board.

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

Thanks rhubarbe.

I ordered 2 packs on Saturday and they arrived recorded delivery Monday morning. I've also ordered a spare battery & charger from ebay - http://tinyurl.com/39tshx

Hope it works ok, although for £15 I thought it worth the gamble.

I was wondering if a wide angle lens would be a worthwhile addition on the HV10. If so, any ideas on what one to buy and where to get it?

Thanks

Re: Canon HV10 Cheapest UK Price

Because all HD cams are widescreen by default, and don't simply top and tail a 4:3 image by cutting off the top abd bottom, like many SD cams do, I should have a long play with the HV10 without any add-on lenses before you make your mind up.

There are many many aftermarket lenses available for the HV10 on eBay, all the time. Quite cheaply, too.
