Re. Firewire

I have an Hitachi BX37E..DVD Camcorder.. In order to download to Pc I have bought a 4pin/6pin firewire.....but the 4 pin side is very, very slightly too big for my camera...and the profile does not look quite right....It does fit onto my Canon Camcorder, and it does work fine:so is there another type for my Hitachi ? or are they all supposed to be the same ?

Re: Re. Firewire

DVD video is mpeg2 and does not need firewire for transfer.
The usual transfer is by USB... in this case the mini USB jack on the camcorder. Hence the mismatch of cables

Unless the DVD isnt finalised, it is just as easy to copy video files from DVD in a PCs optical drive to the PCs HDD

I take it your Canon is a miniDV ( or HDV) model, they use Firewire

Re: Re. Firewire

In fact with a DVD camera you do not lead any leads or cables at all if I were you I would do it this way

Use a programme such as Ulead VideoStudio - you take the mini-disc out of your camcorder and put it into the DVD tray of your PC making sure it sits centrally in the little depression made for it. You may have to 'finalise' the mini DVD first - your camera manual will tell you how to do that.

Inside VideoStudio you select "Insert DVD" and point the programme at the DVD and follow the prompts and the video is copied from the disc into the timeline of VideoStudio so that you can edit it - add lots of different videos together - add titles/music/narration - and finally burn to a full size DVD to play in a standard player.

Full details from :-

Thankyou very much...I am a real novice with this !! Yes my Canon is MiniDV
Are you saying that the disc on the Hitachi should NOT be finalized before downlaodinf it to PC ?

Re: Re. Firewire

You can in fact do what Brian110507 has described ( in addition to Ulead Video Studio) with most NLE software these days including Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6/7, Adobe Premiere Elements 2/3 and Pinnacle Studio 10/11

If your editing needs are modest, Uleads Moviefactory 6 ( or plus) equally helps you "import" video from the DVD, do some editing and Burn back to DVD.

Im saying..it should
To reiterate Brians post , and mine, If you finalise the Disc, you wont need any cables as the disc itself is a portable video carrier which can be popped into your DVD drive on the PC and getting the Video off it can be from within software or Copy the contents of the Video TS folder by copy and paste ( they are VOB files) but just save the hassle and do the importing via software
The only reason for not finalising is if the footage is needed urgently and you dont want to render the disc unusable for any further recording
