Updating my Canon MVX250i

It's time to update my trusty 250i but I would like some advice on what people on here consider to be a good replacement. I have been very impressed with the quality of the 250i but I am now having trouble with the zoom control. It continually zooms in so I have to tape the slider to the widest setting.
I want something of equal of better quality than the 250i.
I need mini DV for editing purposes and it is essential that the camera has an external mic input.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Updating my Canon MVX250i

Before suggesting specific models, a few questions/comments:

Comment: There is decreasing choice of consumer DV cams.... external mic inputs are rare but still exist; AV input (which your MVX250i has) is nearly non-existant. Canon MVX460 would have been a pretty direct replacement, but this is now discontinued and hard to find.

Questions:

- Do you have a budget in mind?
- Do you care about DV-in and AV-in?
- Would you consider a High Def model? (Depends on your budget). You say it needs to be DV for editing.... HDV camcorders can record in either DV or HDV mode, but using HDV mode is worth it... even if it needs a bit more PC oomph to do it.
