Panasonic GS80

Having searched and called places that say they have them available... can anyone track down a Panasonic GS80 that is in stock and that has the Panasonic offer of a free case, battery and tape with it. Ideally I dont want to pay more than 210inc p&p.

Bestcameras are saying no stock til "early august" (which to me means weeks) and other places do not seem to reference the panasonic offer. Sceptical as to whether pixmania will supply with the panasonic offer as they will ship from France - no?

Cheers in advance!

Re: Panasonic GS80

You can buy them direct off the Panasonic website. I noticed that Panasonic had them so asked Bestcameras when they thought they would be getting stock. They told me they were expecting them in today Unless of course they are only getting enough in to cover backorders...although I havn't had confirmation that mine has been despatched yet

Re: Panasonic GS80

Thanks for that but I was looking for somewhere closer to the Best cameras price. There is a bit of a difference between the 250 on the panasonic website and 210 from best cameras...

Re: Panasonic GS80

arggggg...

Just when I though I had made a decsision, I have now tracked down a Canon MVX460 for £275.

Help would be appreciated now. Having decided the MD160 was not worth the extra just for AV-in and deciding that the GS80 was better value with the free stuff than the MD101 (and probably better quality judging by the reviews on here) I was going to go for the Panasonic GS80 (plus the free battery and tape and case) but now that I have found the MVX460 is it worth me spending the extra £65. I will only use it for families, holidays etc. Or if I am spending the extra then I should go for the Panasonic GS230 (although then i would lose the AV-in again). Argggg.

Advice from Redsox and Senu would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Re: Panasonic GS80

In terms of video quality, it's close between the MVX460 and the GS230; with the MVX460 having the advantage of both DV and AV in. Both are a cut above the MD101/160 or GS80.

Re: Panasonic GS80

Where are you getting the MVX460 from ? Camcorderinfo really like the Elura 100 (US version of MVX460).

Re: Panasonic GS80

Went for the GS80 in the end for £201... (money a little tight and anything will be better than recording short movies on our sony digital camera like we are doing at the moment.

The MVX460 is on at Boots.com for £322 - but if you have a boots card you can pick up about 4800 boots points at the moment which is about 50 quids worth so, assuming you normally buy stuff from Boots the cam is effectively 275ish.

Probably need to be quick though - they seem to fly off the shelves...

Let us know what you think of the GS80 when you've had a chance to use it.

Where did you get yours from? Was it in stock? and did you still get the free case/batt/tape deal? I'm still waiting for mine!! I'll stop asking questions now! It's just that I was told they would have stock on Monday, only to be told today they don't have stock and cannot give me a due date!

Ignore the above, I've just ordered one from DEO, which looking at it is the same company as digico. DEO had stock (Or so I was told!) and also has the offer. I have now cancelled my order with Bestcamera (Which I may well have kept had they actually made an effort to find out when they were getting stock rather than saying "computer says no"!!) Only thing I miss out on is 2yr warranty.

Re: Panasonic GS80

Mine arrived today. Included was the form to claim the freebies. Just had a little play, seems ok, Zoom is very good. The method for getting power to the camera to transfer DV is very convoluted though!
