Samsung to Sony to TV????

Hi all,
I need some help getting video from a Samsung camcorder into my iMac.
This is what I have:
A Samsung VP-DC161 camcorder, the version I have has no connectors for firwire OR USB. The camcorder is a minidisk type.
It has a tiny connector that the supplied cable fits. On the other end of this cable is one off each of yellow, red and white phono plugs, the type that you can plug directly into a TV and a connector that looks exactly like the old connectors fitted to PC mice and keyboards. This is all that is supplied.
I have totaly failed to edit the video when the disc is in my PC. Neither windows movie maker or (cant remember the name of other editor) will work at all. They both fail to recognise the disk or that it is playing. I can play the video on the PC and in my Phillips DVD player no problem at all. I just cant edit it.

My second camcorder is a Sony HDR-HC7E, I can plug this into both my Mac and PC and it works out of the box AND I can edit the video.

So me thinks why not connect the Samsung to play THROUGH the Sony.

Now this is where I pass over to you. I am lost, no idea how to connect it together or how to set it up but I have been told by other Sony owners that this is easy, but it beats me.

Help!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Phil W

Re: Samsung to Sony to TV????

You can't capture the Samsung through the Sony as the HC7 doesn't have analogue input.

You need to get some software which will allow you to edit the MPEG files from the DVD. Windows Movie Maker doesn't do this. Most commerical packages can; some make this user friendly, with others you may need to rename the files. Sony Movie Studio Platinum is one option; if you use the "import from camcorder disc" option it is easy. You could download a trial and try it.
