What camcorder for £3-400

I have never had one, but want to get a camera for the honeymoon, and have been looking at the JVC and Sony HDD cameras (SR52 eg).

These any good? If not what is best, especially for storage and zoom?

Any help appreciated, as I had been going the HDD route for ease.

HDD cams in that price range like the SR52 are only OK... not as good as DV cams in that price range. For your budget I'd get a DV Panasonic GS320... or spend more and get a Sony SR190... HDD cam.

How does mini DV work? Are they re-writable?

Just can't face having to change discs all the time hence focus of HDD

Mini DV tapes can be reused, yes.

If you want HDD that's fine, just be aware in this price range you'll be sacrificing quality. Or you can pay more and get a decent HDD camcorder.

Also consider how you will backup and archive your footage with a HDD cam.

What would I have to go to get a comparable HDD to the Panasonic 320?

I was going to get a PC DVD writer to back up

Sony SR190 is similar to the Panasonic GS320 in overall quality; available online for around £450.
