New Camera Advice Needed

Hi, I am upgrading from an old Hi-8 Camera and see there is a lot of choice out there now. My budget is around £500 and i was initially thinking of a Sony HDD camcorder (DCR72) but i've seen a few reviews which worry me. I don't really mind the format just want to get a nice light camcorder which is gonna take a decent video. Any advice?
