Im not sure there is a single correct answer to that question
All camcorders struggle in the dark ( or lower light) since their autofocus ( like that of still cameras) relies in part on contrasting surfaces. Large areas of similar colour or shade will similarly challenge autofocus systems
Good camcorder technique means knowing the limitations of your kit and knowing when not to rely on autofocus and when to simply switch to manual focus
Saying that, Some camcorders are known to be sluggish and hunt even with good lighting
Perhaps a better query would be to name a specific model and ask if any one has personal or close experience of its auto focusing abilities or if there are reviews with specific references to autofocus speed and accuracy
