Converting Hi-8 video to DVD via PC

No doubt this has been asked before and I also apologise if I'm in the wrong place. I have a Canon Hi-8 video camera, it works brilliantly and I can't afford to replace it just yet. How do I put the videos onto DVD via a PC? I found this gizmo on the net-http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=307332
Am I on the right track here, or is there something better, simpler etc?

Re: Converting Hi-8 video to DVD via PC

Yes, the device you linked to will do the job - but it may not offer quality that you find good enough. There are many of these devices around but they tend to not give the best quality transfer to the PC.
The video is captured via USB but the audio via the soundcard. This can often cause the video & audio to go out of sync. Also the USB devices often reduce the resolution of the video due to it being unable to keep pace with the data transfer rate.

Saying the above, many others have used these type of devices and been very happy with the results. I suppose it all depends on how fussy you are.
Have a search around this forum as there are loads of ways to get analogue video onto a PC for editing.

Mark.
