Useful info on conversion companies

Hi - after drawing a blank with cams which have AV-in to transfer Hi-8 film to digital, I'm now considering going to one of those companies which does the conversion job for me. I've heard they will charge £12 to produce one dv tape and as I've got a few hours of Hi-8 tapes to convert, this could be a pricey business...

Anyone got examples of companies who do "what it says on the tin" and don't charge the earth for Hi-8 to digital conversions? Or any other suggestions.....?

I recommend Charles at http://www.avsvideo.co.uk/
Excellent service and reasonable prices (if 5 hours or more, £8 per hour).

I think the page uses flash. It works fine for me.

Edit: As an alternative you can contact by email at charles@avsvideo.co.uk

You can also try this site :-

http://www.dvds2treasure.co.uk/

although that doesn't seem to work correctly for me at the moment - maybe a setting on my computer - If it doesn't work for you try a direct e-mail to

graham.hughes@dvds2treasure.co.uk

Thanks Mark but other flash pages work OK - tried Firefox and IE same problem. I cannot understand companies who use websites that are "clever" and therefore do not deliver on a lot of peoples PC's (notwithstanding that my PC is a reasonably modern hi spec!)

Another a/v website I have great difficulty with is the Philips website. On this I get a lot of blank white areas and the whole thing is a pasty green viewed through a fog. Also navigation is extremely difficult.

I think the Cannon HV20 can do this conversion, but I don't know how good it is.
