Panasonic SD1 Problem

Hi guys,

anyone used a SD1 enough to see this fault before......

We are using the camera in a slightly odd way.........recording on a tripod and not really using the LCD other than to set up the shot. So this has meant I have done some tests with the screen unfolded and some with it closed.

If anyone is interested I have been getting over the specified time it says in the manual.

LCD open. recording constantly. no use of zoom lever
Battery lasted 1hr 32

LCD closed. recording constantly. no use of zoom lever
Battery lasted 1hr 50

Not quite the increase I would have expected with the LCD effectively turned off. The AVCHD processing and capturing must be the "heavy" operation.

So anyway.......with the LCD closed, I get the red light flashing on the back to warn that the battery is about to die. I ignore it, until it totally runs out. You hear the recording stop, and then it makes noises as if its in a loop trying to turn itself off. I think the engineers haven't allowed for the LCD not being on whilst this happens. It makes noises for around 30 seconds and then dies (probably battery has completely gone).

When I put a fresh battery in I try to review the clip and it says "Data Control error". It then goes takes five minutes "Repairing Data". When its done the recording is fine.

This doesnt happen if you let the unit run out of battery with the LCD open. It shuts down gracefully.

Is this a known fault ?
