MG575 or SR190??? Tearing my hear out!!!

Dear all,

Title says it all really. I am rapidly going bald. I need this cam because my wife is pregnant with our first child so I want a decent HDD camera that will provide us with some nice memories. As a result, willing to spend up to £500 (a lot of money for me!). Read loadsa reviews with no real consensus so would appreciate all opinions here.

You would really be helping me out. Many thanks!

They are close enough that it's not worth pulling your hair out over...

Video quality is close. The Sony performs better in auto mode; the JVC has better manual controls (has dials and a joy stick, where with the Sony most the manual controls are only accessed via the menu).

For auto point and shoot, I'd go for the SR190. If you want better manual controls then the JVC, but note as the auto controls aren't as good you'll need to learn the manual controls to get the same quality as you'll get from the Sony.
