Talking Canon HV20 Advice/Recommendation & XBox 360 Playback

Well I'm only a few weeks away from my first child and thinking about upgrading to a HD camcorder, The HV20 gets some really good reviews but was wondering: -

1) Will the difference between this/any HD Camcorder and my current Pansonic GS30 be as big as people say.

2) Can I put it onto DVD as a H.264 HD file using imovieHD/fcp and show HD video through my Xbox360 rather than direct camcorder playback?

Its hard to tell how good it is from the samples on the web so any help is really appreciated. Its alot of money but just need to know it wll be worth it I guess for Dad to be!!!

1) Yes, it is worth it. There is a big difference in video quality (especially if you have a HDTV).

2) If FCP can encode H.264 and the Xbox can play it, then yes; I don't know. I know you can encode as WMV HD format and it will play it.

Go for it, the quality is brilliant, you can encode it to whatever format you want, have a look at my video, it's encoded with the WMV HD codec so you could test it on your 360.

ah, it's the latest version of the wmv codec (vc1), you need to have windows media player 10 or above on a pc. The xbox should be able to play them though.
