Question Spare camcorder battery advice req'd please.

While on Honeymoon last September, we treated ourselves to a new video camera, and bought a Sony DCR-DVD755 in the duty free shop in Dubai International Airport.

We're off to Florida in August, and I'm thinking it's a good idea to get a couple of spare batteries.

Never having been down this road before, my first thought is to buy a 3rd party one online, however I'm worried this may not be such a good move!

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, it would be appreciated.

Re: Spare camcorder battery advice req'd please.

The possible problem with 3rd party batteries and Sony camcorder is Sony has logic in the camcorder to check if it thinks the battery is genuine, and to reject it if otherwise.

What seems to happen is the 3rd party companies try and fight back, and some of them will fool the camcorder whilst others won't.

If you go 3rd party best to get a recommendation, and buy from a place which will take it back if it won't work. (I've only bought genuine Sony so can't help you there).

Didn't realise that, so thanks.

I've been looking here and here.

Any thoughts on those?

Cheers.

Re: Spare camcorder battery advice req'd please.

Whilst I have happily ordered aftermarket batteries for my Canon HV10, I very nearly bought a sony HDR-CX6 and if I had done I would only have bought Sony batteries. Yours takes the NP-FP50 and up, and I believe that there are non-oem batteries around that will work, but the NP-FP50 is only £17.45 on Amazon...... OK, it won't last long.

Re: Spare camcorder battery advice req'd please.

Never new that about Sony camcorders & batteries . As it happens I dont have a Sony but I did want some spares batteries when I bought my Panasonic . I bought 2 , one from ebay and another from jessops .The ebay one came with a charger that you can actually use in the car as well as the home and all the leads , the Jessops one came with "nowt" . I still have the ebay battery , holds it's charge well after all these years , the Jessops one had to go back after 6 months , totally dead ,wouldn't charge at all . I did get a replacement and it still works . My advice , go get one from ebay .
