Advice needed please

Hi,
Thinking about getting replacement camcorder as i'm selling my old one Sony DCR-TRV730E. I'm thinking either Sony Sr190E, JVC 505 or JVC 575. Sony 1 offers CMOS sensor and JVC 1 3ccd and 5ccd. Just wondering which one gives clear picture quality? Not really fussy about the still imag as we've got Canon A710is camera anyway.
Thanks

Re: Advice needed please

I think you may be getting the resolution supported by the CCDs and the number of them confused.

The SR190 has a single large CMOS, the MG575 a single large CCD, and the MG505 has 3 smaller CCDs.

For video performance the number of MP supported doesn't matter, but the physical size helps (larger is better), and number of CCDs (generally 3 better than one). Though in the same price range the choice is often between one larger sensor and 3 smaller ones, the larger sensor tends to give better low light performance, 3 sensors better colour accuracy. For quality it doesn't matter much if it is CMOS or CCD; Sony favours CMOS. CMOS has some advantages such as power consumption.

The MG505 is an older model. Overall I'd say performance between the SR190 and the MG505 is close. I've not seen the MG575 or any reviews to comment on it, I would think it is also similar.

So CMOS and CCD likely just for still image rather than video sensor? So if i get the hdd sony around £300 with lower ccd still gives good quality of video as well?
Thanks

Not quite. The CMOS or CCD will be used for video as well, and it does matter. But what matters is the physical size (larger is better), also generally 3 is better than 1, though 1 large can be better than 3 small.

A £300 HDD cam will have a single 1/6" sensor, as well as a cheaper lens. Video performance will be less than great. It's worth it to pay the extra to get a model like the SR190.

Panasonic for SD and HD HDD or media card models, and JVC

If you considered tape, Canon

There is no "cheapest "place online as prices are dynamic and companies which sell cheap don't stock all models. Also some constantly cheap sources are suspect
Google is a good starting point
