canon MV890 - upload help please?

Dear forum,

Please can someone help. I am a Mum of a 10 yr old whom I gave a camcorder to at beginning of year. I have just found out that he just watches what he has recorded from the camera and has not worked out how to upload to his PC.

I have tried to upload to my pc via a cable but it doesn't seem to recognise it and I have looked on Canon site to download a driver (?) but they say there isn't one. I just wonder if I am missing a CD or other software? I looked at the box it came with and it doesn't mention any cd or s/w.

When the bubble comes up that says USB not recognised it disappears as quickly as it came up and I can't click on it for extra options.

I have tried going into the h/w section of control panel under camera options but it lists all makes bar Canon?!?

Please can someone help advise what I should do?

Many thanks...Sue

Hi Sue,

Ok prepare to start learning!!! You need a Firewire connection from the camcorder to your PC. Check this thread out first to get an understanding of it all. You will need to use some software too, which if you are using Windows XP you may well be able to use Windows Movie Maker, which is in XP. Camcorder and video editing Frequently Asked Questions

If you need a firewire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i-link) then you can get a PCI card and cable from around £10 in certain places....including from me at a last resort!! I have a few brand new spare ones around....

It all depends on what you want to do wit hteh video footage once you have it on the computer to which software would be the best for you. DO you want to do some editing and then burn to DVD to share your son's movies for instance???

Ok enough for starters hope this helps get you started!!
