Mini DV Tape Recommendations

I have just purchased a Panasonic NV-GS300 camcorder and want to buy some Mini DV tapes. I guess, like many things in life, there are different specifications. What should I look out for to give me good quality recording?

Are there some reviews?

I have NEVER had a problem with a TDK tape (VHS from 1984, S-VHS-C from 1989, S-VHS from 1993, Mini DV from 1999......)

Their DVD+/-R/RW.......Only bought one 10 pack of their -RW and one failed......Have NEVER had a failure with Verbatim discs...........?

I've always used Sony tapes - the Sony "Premium" tape is good and inexpensive. TDK, Panasonic, they are good too.

Re: Mini DV Tape Recommendations

At 59p (yep I had to double check that price myself ) for 3 Sony Premium miniDV tapes Here I don't think you can go far wrong

Mark.

Edit:
on further checking of the Amazon site they are offering the tapes for 1p each.
Now that has got to be a mistake!!!

Re: Mini DV Tape Recommendations

The 59p for 3 was from a reseller.... which means 4.50 postage per 3 pack. Still not bad, but that means 3 tapes will cost £5.09. 6 tapes will be £10.18, etc. It's usually better to order from Amazon directly where you can get 10 for £11.99, with free postage if you spend over £15.

Not a mistake, another reseller. 1p for a single tape, but £4.50 per tape postage! 5 tapes will cost you £22.55.

Re: Mini DV Tape Recommendations

...really scare yourself and try pricing up 20 like I did! Needless to say I did not press "buy".

I was aware that these tapes were via a reseller and not actually from Amazon, but this is not always a bad thing. What I did not realise was that postage would be 'per item' rather than 'per order'.
I guess the reasons for the above must be similar to eBay where the seller pays a percentage of the sales total to 'the advertiser', but not including postage charges.

So yes, it does look like the Amazon direct is the best and cheapest way to buy the Sony tapes.

Mark.
