How to convert from 8cm to proper DVDs?

This is probably such a silly question but I am looking to buy a Sony DCR DVD 106 (good choice?) and know that it records on to these little DVDs.

How do I then get these onto big DVDs? Do I need a DVD recorder?

Thanks so much in advance.

You will need either a DVD recorder, or a DVD burner on your PC (and editing/authoring software).

Re: How to convert from 8cm to proper DVDs?

If you have a DVD burner on the PC or Mac then this will probably be the quickest and easiest way to copy the 8cm DVD's onto full sized discs. Just pop the disc into the burner and use something like Nero to do a disc to disc copy. If you want to edit out the boring bits (most of what I record at times ) then there are several good editing programs that have been mentioned on this forum several times. Have a search for a list of them if this interests you.

Mark.

If you want to use a settop DVD recorder, you can copy direct.. or get one with a HDD
You can then dub from several mini DVDs to its HDD and later copy all these back to onto a Normal DVD
This method bypasses the PC which is more versatile TBH but requires software and a bit of know how

Thank you very much for your help. Anyone care to recommend a DVD recorder fit for this sort of task?

Re: How to convert from 8cm to proper DVDs?

Any good make will do TBH. There is a DVD recorder forum worth browsing for ideas
Ive used a Panasonic and currently use a LG, both of which have been satisfactory

In the meantime if you have a PC already with DVD burner it may be worth trying the PC method
either
by putting the finalised disc into the DVD drive
or copying its contents whist still in-camera via USB
You could get version 5 of this for not much or use a downloaded trial version

Certainly you could get Full editing software too

Im a little curious here, If you are considering getting material onto larger DVDs , why aren't you considering a HDD camcorder instead?. It is the convenience of instant playback on DVD player as such not needing anything else that is the DVD camcorders main selling point over tape and HDD , not quality or portability
With HDD you get a lot more time to shoot and remove the need for buying discs.. and quality is either the same or better.

With tape quality is way better but Im aware of the perceived "hassle" of transfer to PC. editing ect which is not everybody's idea of fun
