hello
have medium budget camcorders that are used in a tree (as you do) and operated from the ground by means of lanc cables... start stop zoom.

Now, on the market, these latest more modern new lowbudget camcorders now have good enough resolution, but few have lanc...... we have looked at what cams still have this, but wondered if there was an alternative (remote control IR wont suffice)... wondered if usb has a remote function... bearing in mind we operate 8 cams and at the moment have 8 little lanc contolers side by side... any thoughts to alternative to lanc... thanks

Lanc was a Sony invention IIRC and therefore is most likely to be found on Sony cams, but does also crop up on Canon cams. But as you have said it is not on all models, especially at the lower end of the range. Panasonic do (or did do) their own version of wired control, so it might be worth a look at the specs of their cams as well.

A lot of Sony Camcorders still have Lanc ....All the HDV models certainly do
