my brother has got one of these camcorders and he wants to edit what he has recorded on his desktop pc (not laptop) but he doesn't know what firewire cable he needs (4 pin to 4 pin or a 4 pin to 6 pin) if it is a firewire cable he needs, he hasn't got a clue. it was supplied with usb cable but he can only get sound through it.

Could be either
The camcorder end is almost always 4 pin.
Laptops tend to have 4 pin as well unless it is via a PC card
Desktops tend to have a 6 pin jack, but some (like my Shuttle (SFF) have both

Unless it is a Laptop, a 4 pin to 6 pin is most likely what he needs

Some Panasonics can actually transfer DV through USB via Motion DV software but this model seems to use it for transfer of stills from the SD card
