Canon MVX450

I treid hard to find the Canon MVX460 but I have found a shop that has the Canon MVX450.

Does this have an external mic input too , I understand its almost identical to the MVX460 but minus the DV input and AV input.

Re: Canon MVX450

Hi redsox Mark.

I went to jessops in Eailing West London and they were selling the MX450 on a clearance offer it was normally £379 and it was reduced to £279.00.

So I brought it today. I have had to hide it from the wife (lol), (she would go absolutly crazy if she found out I brought another cam) .

I'll keep both the Canon MV880X and I'll use the MX450 for important recordings.

I have'nt tried it out yet but I am looking forward to getting started , its great to have that option of a mic input.

As you said the low light on these cams are better then the newar enty level models.

Dave

Re: Canon MVX450

I still have'nt had a proper chance to try it out but form the reviews it has a very good battery life, as my other canon MV880X max recording time using viewfinder is 90 mins this one's 150 mins.

Re: Canon MVX450

Thanks for that Mark.

Its surprising how they are now discontinued .

The UK have a magazinge which use to be called What Digital camcorder which now has changed its name to Digital Video. On there cam reviews they only gave the MVX460 83%.

But I am not too sure about there ratings I tell you why , they rated the JVC-GR D340 as the best budget cam of the year . I brought that cam just before Christmas and although the daytime recording is very good in lowlight it was awful ,lots of red hue and the focus was really bad.

So I think I prefer the camcorder info website reviews.

Re: Canon MVX450

camcorderinfo's reviews are the best I've seen - they have a specific set of tests and criteria, and they put each cam through the same ones. And with their scoring you can see exactly where a camcorder is strong and weak.

The only problem is you have to translate model numbers; with most manufacturers this is easy, but Canon has totally different names to challange us....

Re: Canon MVX450

Mark do you have a link to that review of the MVX460 on Digital Video techn magazine as I read one of your old post and they voted it best mini DV cam of the year.

Also I have just saw some footage of the MVX460 on a french website and man it is very very good , especailly in widescreen mode.

I am going to take mine out with me tommorow and try it for the first time.
I am well excited.

Re: Canon MVX450

Very pleased with this cam. i was experimenting with the settings .

Redsox Mark, your right the overall quality is great ,lovely coulors , there is some differance in the digital effects as my Canon MV800X has a low light option on the digital effects where as the MVX450 only has a night mode option but the plus side is the LED light can be swicthed on at anytime and its twice as bright as the MV880X cam. Where as the Canon 880x light can only come on when its set in Supernight mode .

The battery life is fantastic a good 80 to 90 mins easily.
The only problem was that it did'nt come with the usual back up battery for the cam, so I am going to jessops tommorow and see if they have it there.

I also brought a cheap external stereo mic from Maplins just to try it out.

My friend recorded me while I was busking with my Phonic amp ,it came it fairly good but when I recorded him with his guitar I noticed there was a hum. could it be that when I was recording him I did'nt use the Canon battery I used my own power supply , the same one that I use when I busk with the DC to AC Inverter running theough a car battery. It could be that it was picking up the grounding hum. As when my freind recorded me he used the normal Canon battery and there was no hum on the recording.

About buying external mics , would you say that sterreo was the best choice for recording live music . I will eventually invest in a quality mic, the Rode shot gun you mentioned Mark looks good.

Is the frequency responce something to look out for when buying external mics?

At this stage i will be able to afford this mic from Digital Village:

http://www.dv247.com/invt/2700/

Audion Technica are great I have some of there studio mics for live singing.

Re: Canon MVX450

The cheap Yoga Electric condenser mics frequency range states 50HZ -16HZ.

Where as the Audio Technica states 70hz -18hz.

Does this matter so much?

AT is a proper recognised audio company , I have never heard of Yoga until I went to Maplins which I would think is verys basic.

Re: Canon MVX450

Just read some mixed views over the net about the Audio tech ATR 25 some say it has a weak signal, but for small gigs it might just do the job.
