Canon budget cams question?

Quick question about all budget Canon cams.

I have a Canon MV880X and it has a 1.3 mega pixel for stills.

Does this mean that the video quality would also be better then the other 800k models?

Or would the quality be basicllay the same?

Re: Canon budget cams question?

The number of MP for stills has no impact on the video performance. PAL SD video is 720x576, which is just over 400k. An 800K CCD is enough to capture that full resolution (in 4:3 or widescreen)... any more pixels only helps the stills.

Re: Canon budget cams question?

Thanks Mark for this.

Maybe I have been ripped off as the guy in the camera shop told me that the Mv880X was a better performer for video's .I am not really interested in using it for the stills functions.

I wish I found out on here before I brought the cam.

Re: Canon budget cams question?

Every SD PAL camcorder is 720x576. So they all have the same video resolution, in theory. That doesn't mean that every PAL camcorder is the same quality. The physical size and number of sensors, the quality of the lens, the quality of the digital signal processing, etc all factor in. A Canon XL2 for example only has 800k CCDs, and is clearly better than an entry level consumer model.

So it is possible that MV880x is better than for example a MD101 or MD160. In fact, the MV800x has a larger (1/4.5") CCD, which will help video performance.
