Newbie advice on digital camcorders

Hello.

I am after some advice on buying a digital video camera. My Dad is going to Peru on holiday later in the year, and I thought a video camera for him to capture the experience might make a good birthday present.

Sadly, I know nothing at all about such things. I know a little bit about digital cameras, but not the video versions... So I'm after some recommendations.

I am looking at spending £200 or less if possible. I know, that isn't going to get me anything top of the range, but then my Dad is hardly a pro photographer... I just need something fairly compact, easy to use, which will produce a decent picture. Lots of fancy settings are not required, I just want the best basic camera I can get for the money.

Any pointers would be very much appreciated..

Thanks

Joe

With a £200 budget, I suggest a miniDV model - specifically the Canon MD101. Good quality for the money, it's small and easy to use.
