Video/DVD Authoring software

I have finally given up with Ulead Moviefactory 5, had enough of its hanging up or crashing
Can anyone recommend a good piece of software that i can use to import dvds, avi files split video files, delete segments, deisgn menus etc.

I was thinking about giving Videostudio a try, is it worth a shot ????

Re: Video/DVD Authoring software

Its a shame UleadMovieFactory is playing up with you.
Ive used it since ver 3 with no unsurmountable problems.
Movie Workshop2 is even better ( and costs more) but its stuck in ver 2 if you want to try it out Pm me.

UleadVideoStudio10+ is based on similar code as MovieFactory, If you want to try ve 10+ , it's currently £19 at PC World..but thats probably because Ver 11 has just been released

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum (as suggested above) , has 2 core Programs, Vegas Movie Studio and DVD Architect Studio.
DVDA can be used on its own as a DVD arthoring program, .The import of DVDs files AVIs and editing are really better done in an editng progran leaving the menu and chaptering to the DVD arthoring .
This is how SVMS is set up.

With Movie Factory ,I just import mpegs, (or edited DV AVIs) and author DVDs....no sweat.
When you say you import AVIs , Many programs ( including MF) will struggle if these are mpeg4, Divx, or Xvid files, as they are highly compressed files and dont edit very well..
I dont edit the few I use and if I do I dont expect much..

Adobe Premiere Elements 3 is another program you might wish to consider
On paper ( and when it works well) Pinnacle Studio is yet one more but its penchant for instability on some systems makes it hard to endorse wihout reservations.
It does work for me though and is easy to use but Im wary of giving it the .

I hope you downloaded the platinum Version.
If so, that is ver 7 and not available in the UK.
The boxed version available here from Amazon is Ver 6

Ver 8 is expected in July but the trial or ver 6 will give you an idea of its abilities and there is usually an upgrade version for purchasers of earlier versions
HTH
