Lightbulb How will my video look on 4:3 HELP!!!

Hello everyone

I have just made a video for my 4 month old son. The camera has a native 16:9 lens and I have used VideoStudio to add effects, titles, etc. It looks great on my 16:9 TV, but before I send the DVD to my family I would like to see what it will look like on a 4:3 telly and I haven't got one. Mainly if the titles can be seen or they will be out of range.

VideoStudio can convert it to 4:3, but then it does not look that good on widescreen. Any program or VideoStudio option to check what it will look like on different sets so I can make adjustments without having to watch the movies twice, on two different tv?

Many thanks

Yep, on a 4:3 screen it should just add black bars at the top & bottom of the screen rather than chop off the sides of the picture or squeeze it.

Mark.

Re: How will my video look on 4:3 HELP!!!

Not all TV's will letter box (black bars top and bottom) a few will actually squash the picture to 4:3. Your titles will be on screen but they and the subject will be slightly out of proportion. Most people won't notice but if you saw the footage on a 16:9 TV and then watched it squashed, you will.
If the 4:3 TV has a letter box feature it may not be automatic so check the menu options.

Re: How will my video look on 4:3 HELP!!!

The DVD video player may ( in addition to the TV) have display options
which (as stated) may not be selected automatically

Wide
Pan and scan
Letterbox

Varying any of these display options may enable your Picture show in a way that looks "right" regardless of how it was recorded.
You are right that converting aspect ratio in software may lead to "unpredictable" results...not a good idea

Regardless of aspect, the software should give you "Display Safe" areas to stick to to avoid cutting off titles ect
BTW IIRC It isnt the lens that determines the recording aspect ratio, it is the sensor
