Playback not working in Canon MV600

Hi everyone,

i've got the same problem with two different video cameras. My friend said his panasonic nv-xxxxx (forget which model) wouldn't play back any tapes, it would load the tape and rewind etc, but the counter was permanently set at 00-00-00. The screen also only displayed black.

So I tried his tape in my camera, a Canon MV600i, and it did the same thing, screen displayed nothing and the counter was at all the zeros all the time.

So i put my tape back in my camera and now that won't play either, the same as above. I tried recording to the tape with both cameras, and although it makes all the right noises, nothing appears on playback.

Does anyone know if a bad tape can corrupt a camera? Sounds unlikely to me. Or anyone know how to repair this problem?
