I figure you are the best people to ask about this .

Has anybody had experience of a Hitachi DZ-HS301E DVD/Hard Drive camcorder? Or can advice me on a better option.

You are in the right place...

As far as I know, Hitachi are the only company offering a hybrid HDD/DVD recorder, so if that is what you want you don't have any choice. I don't know much about them.

Panasonic are about to release some hybrid SD card/HDD models....

Do you specifically want/need hybrid DVD/HDD?
