I have a bunch of mini dv tapes from my old camcorder but no means of viewing them.

Is there any kind of adapter on the market to view them?

No - it's not like VHS-C (for which there is an adapter to full VHS). To play a miniDV tape you need a camcorder or a DV deck. (The decks tend to be expensive, so the cheapest way is a camcorder).
