Angry Studio 8 - very low audio levels on DVD

I've grown to 'love' V8, but I don't do enough video work to justify upgrade or change. So I'm relying on anyone who has a good memory to let me know what I'm doing wrong.

In the past when transferring from Video8 to DVD I've produced quite a few successful projects. However now when I burn a DVD the volume is extremely low, on max tv volume you can just hear that the audio is there. Audio is at normal levels when I preview the finished project through the inbuilt Studio DVD player or when I output to tape and replay that on the tv. Obviously I can see that both video and audio files have been written to DVD.

My hardware and software hasn't changed over this period, 512k Athlon with 2x 60Mb drives using Win ME and Studio patched to the latest level that Pinnacle provided for Win ME.

Thanks for any help.

I don't recal ever having audio level problems in version 8 although the early versions had lip synch problems, fixed by a patch.

Are you using the latest versio 8 patch? Can't remember what it is but still have it lying around on the PC somewhere.

Also try rendering footage to an AVI file and check the audio levels.

Re: Studio 8 - very low audio levels on DVD

I don't use Studio, so not sure if this applies, but...

Are you using ac3 audio for your DVD? By default, .ac3 encoders usually have dynamic range control settings on which reduce the audio volume. (These are designed for films where you have some very loud scenes). You may have settings to turn these off.

In Vegas I set
Dialog Normilization to -31db
Line Mode Profile to none
RF Mode Profile to none

Not sure if Studio has similar settings.
