Weird problem with downloading video to PC

Someone might know what going on ?

I plug the camera into the USB port and select the memory card reader option. The camera is recognised with no problems, but the software designed to capture the video does not start up. However I can reverse engineer this by selecting my computer so I can see the file on the cameras SD card and exploring it using the software. The software will display the video in its window and I can do conversions etc. The video appears in a folder under my documents, which is all OK but when I try and play it with quick time it says that 'the disc is not availble in the drive', if I press the exit cross on the message, it comes up with another warning message (cant remember what it is), click the ignore box and its back to the disc in drive warning..........ignore each message three times and the video plays perfectly?????..........whats going on.

Re: Weird problem with downloading video to PC

I can't fully explain, but a couple of comments:

- With a memory card and USB, it isn't a "capture" like with DV, but simply a file copy. So I wouldn't expect the software to automatically fire up when you connect the camcorder... as long as you can add the clips to your project that is fine.

- The problems you are seeing when playing the clips sounds like some sort of codec problem. I sometimes get errors complaining about a lack of codec but then a file still plays (usually in Windows Media). What you are seeing sounds similar, though strange that it thinks it needs to read from "disc".

Re: Weird problem with downloading video to PC

It may be worth just using a USB card reader to copy off the video to HDD and see if this problem replicates itself

Similarly grab a copy of VLC or GOM to try and play them

No problem adding the clip to the project, but strangely I have to download it by the usual windows method and not through the ulead photo explorer software......weird.

It plays perfectly with VLC (Thanks Senu), I just had not tried it......bah Quick Time has always been a pain, thats why I have a PC and not a Mac and a Samsung MP3 player and not an iPOD
