adding sound

i have edited a 14 min slideshow, but as always i am struggling with the audio.the slideshow is using 3 audio timelines for various effects, the part i have always struggled with is finding a main continuous audio track for the duration of the slideshow.
normal music is usually only 3 or 4 minutes,so that would mean 3 or 4 tracks to match, the only other source i have found that would last the duration is classical, the main audio track fades in and out for the various other sounds so anyone know a good free website for audio.or tricks of the trade? to get round this problem,i have spent hours surfing the net trying to find audio

What are you editing with?

I doubt that you'll get a 14 min track , Classical tracks (which tend to be long) are often longer most other track 8 min Max

You can get similar 2 or 3 jazz /instrumental tracks and join them up to make 14 mins. If longer you can fade it out at the end
Im not sure what you are using but with software like Vegas ( or MS) you can import enough to fill the time , cross fade them at joins , and trim off ( fade out) the end if its too long
Otherwise any audio editor should be able to allow you import and join together such tracks as wav/ mp3 which you can then use as your main track
A free one like Audacity should be capable .

Re: adding sound

As Senu has said you can overlap the tracks so one merges in to another. Or you could let the first track finish (fade out), then have the next track fade in after it. If you can organise your slideshow so there is a logical break/change that can work well. Having a short "gap" between tracks is fine especially if you line that up with a slide changing.

Re: adding sound

thanks redsox/senu,i have no problem with the technicalities of fades and cuts.its just finding the right music that blends,or sites with free downloads (really free)of royalty free music or unusual effects.i know i can use any commercial soundtrack but again it's finding the 1% of music with lyrics that match the theme.
does it work better with words in the music or without?.
i have just realised that i don't take enough notice of soundtracks used by the professionals on tv.

Re: adding sound

You can use music with lyrics or without... generally I use music with lyrics when the lyrics compliment the subject in some way. If you want the music to be noticed less (more as background) than instrumental is probably best.

Re: adding sound

TBH , when in doubt.. don't use lyrics, if you must make sure they match the visuals.

On a few tracks making up 14mins . You've got your work cut out.

I do it, but then i have a fairly large bank of MP3s and try to keep abreast with music ( old and new)

Instrumental/ Jazz funk / Easy listening are generally fairly safe if not
The internet is not where to get them : Harrass your music loving friends with Ipods and mp3 players for suitable tunes.. ( A friend in need is a bl***dy....)
