Sanyo VPC-CG6 just arrived !

Well my new Camcorder arrived this morning from Allcam (Allcam received the order on Saturday evening and it was delivered this morning..excellent ).

First impression........wow, its tiny, really tiny. No matter how small you think a mini DV camera is, this makes them look huge, think more like a pack of cigarettes size.

In the pack comes the lens cap, charger, battery, wrist strap, USB cable, Video out cable, carry pouch (pink velour), comprehensive instructions and 2 x CDs of editing software/iPOD software.

Initial impressions, it feels really nice, it looks really cute. Everyone in our office has had a look and everyone likes it.

Controls seem easy to use, although the joystick is pretty tiny.

But, one thing that no one has mentioned..........I turned it over and on the base is a tripod mounting hole.......

Anyway the battery is now on charge and I will report back with more words and hopefully some pictures/video. If you want some specific footage/photos then let me know and I will try and oblige.

Re: Sanyo VPC-CG6 just arrived !

Hey, was just about to purchase this but saw your thread and thought Id just see how the video quality is-I dont need it to be amazing, just passable tbh. am going on a 3 month holiday and was thinking about using this to video along the way-I have an 80GB archos so was just going to back up the contents of the SD card to the HDD of the archos every so often. Really interested in how the Sanyo handles since info on it elsewhere is so damn sparse!

I'm going to try and put together a review, however I have played about with it tonight.

I cant really judge how it stands up against other formats, I tried it in HQ-TV setting (which is not the highest resolution but allows 2 hours of continuous footage) and then displayed it straight to the TV (dead easy), the room was lit by a few downlighters and the image was reasonably good considering this was at low light levels, but you could'nt say it was brilliant, more like the graininess on old style VHS tapes. I also tried it a couple of times for short bits of video during the late afternoon (again on HQ-TV) and the image was much improved with pretty natural colour and reasonable clarity even at full optical zoom. I am sort of comparing this with the sort of quality I get from my Canon SLR which is pretty unfair, but as I have never owned a video camera its difficult to judge.

Everything else works exactly how it should, there does not seem to be anything missing from its features. Its also very easy to use and I find the menu system to be simple (although others think it is not all that easy) a complete doddle that took very little time to become used to.

It will take a 4gb card (one of the new type super high speed types) and will take a tripod.

Everything sounds pretty much as I expected tbh, Im not expecting the quality to be that great but should be ok for me, just ordered one myself so am looking forward to receiving it-1 more thing, do you know if it takes 8GB SDHC cards? I know it takes 4 GB but I havent been able to find any info regarding 8GB cards.

I couldn't delete my post and I am not bright enough to work out how to down convert to the forum limit (I compacted it down to 4mb, but the limit is 2 ). Seen several posts suggesting it can take 8Gb cards but Im not going to be the first. It says 4Gb high speed cards, so thats what i will use. Check the classes of these different cards, not everything is equal.

We can swap stories when yours arrives. I have been taking a few photos with mine and they are really great.
