HT Software

does anyone know of any video editing software that is written for hyper threading processors?

Re: HT Software

As I understand it, hyperthreading is mainly a way of having multiple logical threads within a single CPU core. So if the editing software is already using the CPU at 100% you don’t gain anything.

I use Vegas, I don’t think it has any special support for hyperthreading, but with a dual core machine it does fully use both cores. I recently moved from a Pentium M 1.6 Mhz laptop to a core duo 2.0 Mhz, and render times were more than cut in half.

(I don't fully understand hyper threading vs. multiple cores, but anyway Vegas does take advantage of multiple cores; up to 4).

Re: HT Software

Ulead Video Studio 10 plus and Adobe Premiere Elements 2/3 are happier with it
"Optimised for"
Pentium 4HT is boldly stamped on the boxes giving AMD owners an undeserved inferiority complex!

What this means in practical terms is unclear to me suffice to say that rendering is processor intensive and anything to cut down render times is always welcome

Mark,
Do you now edit native m2t on the newer laptop without chocking it?

Yes!

Responds well. Even with a couple of video tracks I get full rate previews. No more using proxies or intermediate files for me.

Re: HT Software

I think in adobes' case Senu only the Hype! applies it it seems both 2 and 3 are so cpu hungry its almost a neccessity for good capturing . Some even prefer to capture in windows movie maker

Re: HT Software

Avid Liquid 7 specifies Hyperthreading especially with HDV editiing
It does better with dual core or Dual processors though
