Re: digital editing

Ulead Video Studio isn't the one I use, but it is a good package with a large user base.

All the major editing packages offer free trials; I suggest you try out as many as you can and see what feels best for you.

As well as Ulead Video Studio, consider Sony Vegas Movie Studio (Platinum), Premiere Elements 3, and Pinnacle Studio.

Re: digital editing

Before you go to the dedicated Forums,
Do a Search on these forums for Video Editng Software . Ulead Video Studio 10 plus is affordable and suitable... but so are others suggested.
Many of us have our favourites and usually try ( with varying success0 to avoid showing bias when recommending anything

It is easier to answer specific queries about Software than go over the currently available software..yet again

A few here should get you going:
Dv Editing

Video Editing Software

The Software all help you capture the data from MinDV tape, Edit cut unwanted parts, change order to tell the story from the shoot video as you want to turn out, put effects, transitions ,titles music then output this hard work to DVD or a file playable on the computer.

Some are more suitable for people with no editing experience but people learn at different rates so "simple" may also mean outgrowing it quickly. "Fully featured" may mean complicated and this can put off a newbee if its too much hard work to get to use
Apart from complexity/ EEas of use and features the main differences lie in the programs interfaces and how you get on with them

Using trial software may be a good intro to Video editing...but do have a good look through previous threads on a similar theme or If you have a friend with one , see it in action: It can be fun

It is incredibly easy to use fast to get results with and is capable ( if you want to do more with it) When it works
It is however written with ( Im assuming) buggy code which makes it work flawlessly for some people and not with others. When it works it is great. When it doesnt it is .
When it doesn't work well it is a serious PITA as it is unstable, crashes unexpectedly and frustrates its user who may up to that point have done a great edit.
What makes it worse is that in trying to find out why , all the common-sense advise seems not to "cure" it .
It works for me, but for a significant minority of folk it ranges from "hard to use without crashing" to "impossible to use" and has attracted as much people to video editing as it has put some off.
What is annoying is that some of those it has put off think it is maybe themselves doing something wrong and not the software playing up.
Like me you may be lucky with it... or not : just try and see

I find UleadVS largely stable but its interface is not as intuitive as Pinnacle Studios Ulead VS Vr 10 plus is the best so far , I like it better than 8 and 9 .
It seems confused at it seems to want to appeal to newbees and old hands alike and really tries ( a bit too hard IMO) to be all things to everybody but it is very popular
Sony Vegas Movie Studio takes a bit of getting used to but is IMO serious VFM if you can get you head round its inititlly unfamiliar interface. It also offers rather more than basic editing features but you can grown with it

Adobe Premiere Elements tries hard to be neebee friendly and ver 3 tries really hard but it is in truth a powerful more "intermediate level" budget priced program whose full potential is better tapped with a little experience
