HDD/Mini DV Camcorder, which one?

I am looking at replacing my Hi-8 camcorder with either an HDD or Mini DV version and was looking for suggestions at models to consider.
It will be used mainly for movies of my new baby, due in 8 weeks, and subsequently holidays etc, with some editing facility required.
I liked the idea of the HDD camcorder as it doesn't involve tapes and is easy to download to computer.
I've really only found one model that I'm keen on, the Sony DCR-SR190E. Have found it for just over £500 and that would be about my budget.
Any other suggestions, comparisons/betefits between HDD and Mini DV would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: HDD/Mini DV Camcorder, which one?

See this thread for some general discussion on HDD vs. MiniDV
HDD Vs MiniDV

As for the DCR-SR190E - it's a new model and I haven't seen it or any reviews yet. But the SR90E which it replaces was very good, I expect the SR190E to be similar.

You pay a bit more for the same quality with HDD - the SR90/190 are similar quality to the MiniDV Sony HC96, which costs £100 or so less. But if the convenience is important to you it may be worth it.

Thanks redsox, read the above link, very helpful.

Another question then, what models, other than the SR190E should I consider looking at. There were a few mentioned, but other suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

There is the previous model SR90, but unless you can get it cheaper than the 190 I would think the 190 is as good or better.

The JVC MG505 is also very good (and also being replaced; not sure what the new JVC model is).

A bit cheaper the JVC MG77 isn't bad either.
