Ideal microphone for HDR-HC3

I've been wondering what the best microphone would be for my new Sony HDR-HC3.

Ultimately I'd love to be able to capture multiple sources at once, but I don't think that would be possible with only one input. Since I won't be able to get multiple sources like I want, I can settle with a boom arm. Does anybody know a good one?

Thanks for your help in advance.

What kind of stuff are you thinking of shooting? I think this would inform your choice.

Re: Ideal microphone for HDR-HC3

Does the HC3 have a video jack or hot shoe? I didn't think you could connect an external mic to the HC3?

If it has a hot shoe is Sony's propretory shoe which means you are stuck to buying Sony Mic's.

Re: Ideal microphone for HDR-HC3

Laser you are correct, HC3 doesn't have a a mic jack or standard shoe, so you are limited to a mic which fits the Sony AIS shoe.

I've been thinking about purchasing:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...967803-6428862

Do you all think I'll be able to catch multiple people speaking at a time?

Re: Ideal microphone for HDR-HC3

I have a http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ECM-MS908...&s=electronics
and its very good, switchable stereo spread so it can be semi directional.
Was trying to get a sample up on the web last night but was out watching Last king of Scotland till 11pm, so got a bit too late. Will post something tonight if i have time.

then again, maybe not, it was recorded in a marquee, mic was set on 120 degree, to get a bit of the crowd noise, ambiance.

Anyway, gives an insight tothe mic a bit. Tried to find some normal voice, but tend not to record such things i find.

video quality is poor, due to making small file size ( even then its 11Mb )
Audio quality isnt too bad though.
