Windows movie maker

I use Windows Movie Maker to edit my downloaded camcorder footage and get as far as "save to my computer" which creates the wmv file. Can't find anywhere in movie maker to save to dvd and nero 6 doesn't seem to recognise this file type.

Anyone any idea how I can get the files to burn to a dvdv so I can show them on my TV?

Thanks

Dotty

Re: Windows movie maker

Windows Moviemaker cannot burn to a DVD. You need to create an mpeg file in order for Nero to burn it to DVD.

Re: Windows movie maker

You can use WMM to save to DV AVI and use then Nero vision to make a DVD.

THIS old post may be helpful

I think that WMM and Nero are fine for getting the hang of Video editing and making DVDs but there are a lot of very capable NLE software that may initially be less easy to use than WMM but are so much more versatile such that only your own creativity will limit how much you can do

Equally there are 1 or 2 quite easy to use DVD authoring solutions that will take you beyond Nero vision for the cost of a Chinese meal for 2 and a couple of s
If you like WMM that much you could do worse than browsing Here

Beejaycee,
WMM does not have an mpeg encoder so the OP cannot create an mpeg file from it anyway. But even Adobe Premiere until ver "Pro 1.5" could encode mpeg but couldn't burn to DVD. There is no doubt your advice is well meant though
Nero vision does have mpeg encoding but as editor is nowhere near WMM .
It is however capable of taking DV AVI from WMM as an input and encoding it to Mpeg2.

I think both software are fairly limited applications even though they do actually work

PS: You could have gently pointed the OP towards UVS though

Re: Windows movie maker

If this is the sort of post moderation we're going to get in this forum now I'll not bother to post any more.

Beejaycee.
Im a little puzzled, my reply to your post was NOT a moderation and I feel implying it is a little unfair

It would be a pity if you chose not to post any more on account of that but I suspect You may have misunderstood the post

True, but It assumes the OP knows how to create Mpegs ,and may easily be (wrongly) interpreted that WMM can create them for use by Nero

My posts merely suggested that rather than use wmv files the OP could use available DV AVI output options from WMM in Nero which would then convert them to Mpeg and author a DVD simultaneously

I also stated ( sincerely ) that your advice was well meant and supplemented your link to Papa John site with another to the WMM forums

My tounge in cheek reference to UVS was alluding to your proficiency with that software ( as seen in your signature)

In which of these instances have I managed to discourage you from posting??

At any rate, I apologise if you feel offended but I would urge you to read the posts again : there is nothing in them that berates your advice and I remain puzzled as to your reaction

The Nature of forums is such that one has to thread carefully between being helpful and avoiding being patronising .
The other end of the spectrum is giving advice that assumes knowledge that the OP may not have:
I think it is equally good to try and avoid that in order not to put people off .
Getting the right balance is difficult but in no way does it ( and should it) amount to any sort of post moderation
