I recently bought a SONY DCR-SR50 for work and I have to say it's very good to use. I appreciate that the picture quality might not be as good as similarly-priced mini-DV units but it is very convenient to use.
It costs about £400 which is not cheap. Does anyone have info or experience of other HDD camcorders? The Sony SR30 is about £50 cheaper and as far as I can tell differs by having a 0.8 MP CCD instead of 1 MP. Does this make a big difference? Then there are JVC models with 20 GB HDD that come cheaper still - anyone know how these compare with the Sonys?
The number of MP itself makes no difference in video mode, only for stills. Standard definition video is about 0.4 MP by definition. The SR50 does have a physically larger CCD (marginally). The SR50 will be better, but the difference not that great.
